  • Protect against gum disease
  • Helps to prevent bad breath

Although conventional dental cleanings can be successful, in fact one of the most important preventative treatments is periodontal maintenance.

The purpose of you visiting our office for your routine periodontal maintenance is so that we can ensure that your teeth and gums remain healthy.

It is during this time that our periodontist will treat your teeth and direct Dr. Mitchell Gardiner, Dr. Christopher Di Turi and our team of hygenists to examine your mouth, teeth, and gums for any exisiting or potential problems.

Our dental team will clean your teeth to remove any plaque or tarter which can lead to any probelms including tooth decay and periodontal disease. They will also polish off any stains and floss in between your teeth to keep your smile healthy and bright.

Periodontal Screening

is used to:

  • Identify changes in gum health
  • Examine for tooth and bone decay
  • Investigate causes of bad breath

During your regularly scheduled hygiene appointment, Dr. Mitchell Gardiner and Dr. Christopher Di Turi may perform a periodontal screening in our Shrewsbury, New Jersey office.

The purpose of this examination is to detect periodontal disease, also called gum disease, early on so it is easier to detect and to treat.

Periodontal disease is primarily caused by the bacteria found in plague, which infects the gum tissues and if left untreated can cause the gums to pull away from the teeth. Eventually if it becomes severe enough, it may result in bone loss and tooth loss.

Some common symptoms of gum disease include bleeding gums, red or tender gums, persistent bad breath, receding gum lines and tooth loss. A normal exam from our excellent dental team will identify if your suffer from any stage of periodontal disease. We will also custom tailor any treatment towards your specific needs. Depending on how severe the disease has progressed our team might suggest more frequent dental cleanings, antibiotic treatment, scaling and root planning, which is more aggressive cleaning regimen,  or even gum surgery.

Our only goal is to keep your mouth, teeth, and gums healthy. If you questions or want more information please do not hesitate to call or visit our office soon.
